On 20th September 2012, Batur Caldera has been officially included into network of UNESCO Global Geoparks Network as Batur UNESCO Global Geopark. This is a great honor, for that BUGG will become among the first and the pioneer for development of other global geoparks in Indonesia. The innovative approach by UNESCO on developing conservation area without abandoning sustainibility of geology, culture, as well environment, has given a beneficial impact for economic welfare, especially for the local community.

Geopark is a region that have an unique world class geology heritage. In its application, the concept of geopark has an intimate relationship with geology heritage, as well as biological and cultural diversity that must be well managed with involving local government and community. In the end it is for the collective interest of sustainable economic activity of local community through, geotourism, ecotourism, and culture tourism.
