MIND MAPPING OF BIODIVERSITY IN BATUR
The proposed Geopark has a considerable biodiversity. Most of these floras and faunas live in area of the Natural Tourism Park. Species of vegetation are mostly a forest plantation, includes acacia (Acasia sp.), puspa (Schirna noronhaea), and some minor plant species such as pines (Casuarina equsetrofolio), ampupu (Eucalyptus urophylla), hibiscus (Hibiscus tilaceous), and dadap (Erytrina variegata). Type of wildlife faunas as many as 30 species among other are pheasant (Gallus varius), cuckoo (Streptopelia chinensis), terocok (Gouvier ahalis), kacer/becica (Copsycus saularis), ferret (Paradoxurus hermaproditus), porcupine (Hystrix branchura), armadillo (Manis javanica), and squirel (Tupaia javanica). Near the top of Batur Volcano encountered flock of monkeys.
Kintamani dog as a fauna mascot of Bangli Regency. Famous pets in the area geopark is Kintamani Dog. It is originated from the Kintamani Highlands. It is called Gembrong dog (local name). It has a graceful, beautiful and enchanting appearances. According to folkore, Kintamani Dog the breed originating 600 years ago from a Chinese Chow Chow. It is said that a wealthy Chinese man moved to Bali in the 1400s and brought with him his Chow Chow dog. He settled ini the mountainous region of Kintamani and married into the Balinese family of King Jaya Pangus. The Chow Chow interbred with the local dogs and created a unique type-the Kintamani Dog
Internationally Recognized
The Kintamani dog from Bali has been internationally recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), an international federation of national kennel clubs. The recognition letter was officially submitted by the Belgium-based organization on 20 of February 2019, signed by its executive director Yves De Clercq.
The chairman of the Indonesia Kennel Klub (IKK), Benny Kwok Wie Sioe, told journalists on Saturday that the Kintamani was the first Indonesian dog breed to be recognized internationally.
The History
Kintamani dogs are an ordinary pet in Indonesia. This breed is native to the village of Sukawana, Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali. Kintamani dogs come from the mountains, volcanoes and forests. The traditional documentation of the very ancient Balinese Lontar, mentions Kuluk Gembrong which is believed refered to the Kintamani Dogs. In 1985, with the collaboration of the Udayana University Veterinary Medicine Program, the Kintamani Dog Club in Bali (Pantrab) held the first dog show in Bali, the Kintamani dogs then spreads throughout Indonesia. The name of the breed is given based on the area of origin of this dog.
Kintamani with its dense Pine forest areas are classified as protective forest, production forest, wildlife forest and recreation forest. The respective sustain abilities of these forests are maintained. In 2008, the protective forest area was about 6239.01 Ha (or 66.79%). The development of animal husbandry in the Bangli Regency aims to improve the food quality of its community by means of diversification and intensification. The figures of animal production (slaughter) in 2008 comprise 457 large cattle, 1448 goats/sheep and 182,775 pigs.
Taru Menyan Trees
The taru menyan tree that stands in Trunyan Village is indeed known as a mysterious tree. No local people know when this tree stands. Only, many have revealed that this mysterious tree has hundreds of years old. In fact, there is also a source that says that Taru menyan is a 1,000 year old tree.
The mystery was getting stronger with the fragrant smell that emerged from this tree. Many people in Trunyan Village believe that this tree is the oldest tree on the island of Bali. Not only that, this tree is also believed to be able to retrieve nutrients from the corpse placed underneath.
The History
Batur Edelweis is not only a flowering plant species endemic to Batur but also Indonesia. They are found mostly in mountainous regions of Java, southern Sumatra, southern Sulawesi and Lombok. Although a mature plant can reach eight metres in height, most specimens are less than a metre tall. The flower are generally seen between April and August.
This flowers also known as bunga abadi in Indonesian, literally means eternal flower, this plant is popular among tourists. Dried flowers are often sold as souvenirs. This could lead to the destruction of the wild grown species.
The geoproduct is one of the requirement that must exist to be a Global Geopark. In the area of Batur Kadera, it certainly will not be difficult to find the geoproduct in the entire Batur region, even throughout Bali. Of the many earth products, including natural products and handcrafts, there are: Kintamani orange, Kintamani arabica coffee, vegetables, and carvings made from raw stone, parasite, and wood.
Tangerine Orange
The name was first used for fruit coming from Tangier, Morocco, described as a mandarin variety. Under the Tanaka classification system, Citrus tangerina is considered a separate species. Under the Swingle system, tangerines are considered to be a group of mandarin varieties. Tangerines are smaller and less rounded than common oranges. The taste is considered less sour, as well as sweeter and stronger, than that of an orange. A ripe tangerine is firm to slightly soft, and pebbly-skinned with no deep grooves, as well as orange in color. The peel is thin, with little bitter white mesocarp.All of these traits are shared by mandarins generally.
Kintamani Arabica Coffee
This type of coffee is known to also have a reputation with the name "origin coffee" or original coffee from Indonesia. This coffee commodity has successfully penetrated the Japanese, French and other European countries.Balinese coffee type or commonly referred to as Kintamani coffee is one of the types of arabica coffee that is known to have a sweet and soft taste. Bali Kintamani coffee has acidity that is almost the same as Java / Java coffee.
Kintamani Bali Coffee is famous for its sweet aroma and thick fruity. Because the aroma and taste of Bali Coffee is influenced by the natural conditions around the plantations which are planted with fruits. This Arabica coffee has a medium body and a smooth or soft taste. For those of you who do not like strong coffee, it is suitable to consume Bali Kintamani Arabica Coffee.
Vegetables
As a traditional comunities that still applies “subak” irigation system, people in Kintamani produce many kinds of vegetables, and also farming these vegetables are main profession of most people that lives around Mount Batur Caldera. These vegetables are helping people in Kintamani gains a profitable revenue by supplying those to the local restaurants, that wil be benefits the restaurants too because they can bought the vegetable for a smaler price than buying it from outside Kintamani areas. These vegetables that can grow around Kintamani are Red Chillis, Squash, tomatoes, broccoli, shallots, corn, cabbage, and eggplant.
